I was looking at different AM power houses and see KDWN 720 in Las Vegas is now off the list. I see now they are at 25000 watts.
Anyone know when that happened?

The transmitter moved from Galleria Drive in Henderson, NV to North Sloane Drive in North Las Vegas, NV sometime in 2000. It seems with that move, they went from 50kW daytime to 25kW. They reduce power to 7.5kW at night and operate directionally to protect "Clear-Channel" WGN, Chicago which operates on the same frequency. They still saturate the Las Vegas market, so the downgrade to 25kW essentially has no affect on the coverage of their licensed market. Beasley Broadcast Group owns the station now.

KDWN still comes in strong in Reno, NV and NE California at night.

About 1994 or so, I went to the old studio in the Plaza Casino. Met with the owner really cool.
I was not aware of the transmitter move or the power downgrade.
KDWN still has a good signal in Oxnard on the coast of Southern Calif.
Ok great thank you.

There was talk about the night-time power downgrade to 7500W on another radio forum. Something done to save some money by using less power overnights. A lot of stations are doing this. KGA Spokane 1510 has done this, as did another station out of Spokane that I used to hear at night, but hear no longer. They often get rid of a tower, go ND at night, and cut power (all with approval by the FCC, of course).

Other stations have simply gone off the air....
