• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Keep this duplexer or send it back?

First, thanks to all for the great posts and info. I really appreciate the knowledge you are all willing to share. I'm a long time reader, first time poster and I finally have my own question and need some help, please. I just acquired an RFS duplexer from an Ebay seller (who also tuned it). This duplexer was to be used for a portable GMRS repeater I'm putting together. Anyway, it arrived today and I noticed that the RX N-Female connector has damaged, missing fingers. I contacted the seller and sent him a photo. He replied stating he did not notice this before sending it to me and said is still "fully functional" as it is. He did however offer to refund $20 if I want to keep it or will accept a return and offer a refund. Just not sure if I should try to test it and keep it if it seems OK, or just not bother at all and return it. What would you do? Thanks for your help!

Does not meet MIL-STD-348 standard, thus does not conform to initial offering, open and shut case.

Personally, I'd haggle for as much back as he will give due to a defective item - replace the female N bulkhead connector myself and keep it. ;)

But that's just me, I don't recommend being me for everyone.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I truly appreciate it! I have communicated with the seller and will be returning the duplexer for a refund. Seller is also covering the return shipping as requested due to the defect.

Thanks again.

It really looks like someone tried to jam a PL-259 on there. They'll fit but ruin the center conductor as you can see.

EXACTLY.... Could also be a bent center pin in the N male connector that did the damage. "Thread lightly".

Been using one JUST like it for several years now with absolutely NO ISSUES.. A missing finger while unsightly, isn't going to effect the duplexers operation one bit.. If the price was good and you are happy, I say keep it..

....or just talk to the eBay seller first before opening a dispute. OP already said that the seller offered a full return or $20 and keep it.

He was willing to refund 20 dollars off the purchase price, correct? In that case, it would depend on how much he bought the duplexer for. If it was dirt cheap, I'd say fix it. If not, I'd send it back.
