kelcom LTR

Not sure if you meant a post here or on the Kelcom page. I've been submitting ID's a lot this week and last week along with another friend from our group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/windsorscannerwatch/

We're on a hunt for more ID's daily. Mostly in the Kelcom System 2. I see the System Frequencies aren't complete though. Hope we can get some help with completing those.

Come join our group if you like. We need all the help we can get.

lcn locations

For some strange reason I can't hear a thing that goes on in the kelcom system 2 out in leamington, but under spectrum canada there are frequencies that are a ltr system, just like kelcom that are registered to them. I have no idea why I can't hear them, considering this is a countywide system. I did some research on spectrum to see which frequencys are active right now.

These are the rest of them that are active under the same system, but no one has figured out the correct lcn locationsthere are a total of 17 registered frequencies.

420.3125
420.0875
420.5000
420.6000
420.7000
420.8000
420.9000

Those are the rest of the frequencies that I can't figure out where they go. I know that 420.3125 and 420.0875 are registered to windsor towers and the rest are registered to the ruthven towers. I tried the two methods to program a ltr system on my 246t and all I come up with is that the last five have the same lcn locations as the existing ones already, is it possible that leamington has it's own LTR system. I can't see that being right. But maybe it is. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello,

Since this is a multiple site system it could be a combination of Passport and Regular LTR much like the system down at Foxwoods.
http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=2674

Users that serve only a local area, like Windsor, only need one site so they are setup on a Regular LTR talkgroup. Passport is used if the users need area wide coverage. Current scanners do not decode Passport so any Passport activity is skipped.

Passport systems can also handle conventional and Regular LTR and some frequencies can be setup to handle Passport, LTR, and conventional.

I would check the unknown frequencies and see if there are any idle bursts (or keyup) every 1 to 5 seconds. If so, it could be a Passport system.

I also notice that the CW ID is group 255 (i.e. 0-1-255) and not group 253 (i.e. 0-1-253) on the Regular LTR channels of a Passport system.

It is possible to decode Passport with a Low-Pass filtered data slicer and the LTRDump/LTRTrunk program. See the various Passport threads for more information.

Yeh. I am from Windsor and I am going to try a set-up to decode that format. Right now I am waiting for a cable and I have to tap the Disc. out of my UBC3300XLT which I finally found on the net. Also I am woundering if I should build a slicer or just buy one. I think you can get one fairly cheap. I do need help finding the right program as far as a link is concerned.

Hello,

Unfortunely nobody seems to be making a low-pass filtered data slicer which is needed to filter out voice from the LTR data. I posted a circuit using a quad op amp chip that can decode both LTR and Motorola/EDACS.
http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3644
I notice my circuit diagram did not make it over on the site upgrade so I reposted it as the last message of the thread.

LTRDump/LTRTrunk is a program that can decode and trunktrack Regular LTR, Multi-Net, and Passport. It is a DOS program and is in the download area of this site. It is similar to the Trunker/ETrunk program for Motorola/EDACS.

Thank you ! I posted a link to your program in our group. I don't have the equipment to use it but I hope someone else does. : )

Eric, The Circuit you posted looks good but are the resistor tol. Values that critical or can I go for The next standard Value at say 2 or 5%. Hard to find resistors at that tolerance.
you know what I mean.

Hello,

Unfortunely this is not a Radio Shack project. 2% or 5% tolerance are likely okay but the filter characteristics will differ more from the ideal as the tolerance increases. Filter components can be critical. That is why I went with the AVX 63V Metal Film capacitors as they had a good form factor, stability, and .2 lead spacing. Z5U Ceramic Disk capacitors or 20% resistors should not be used!

I got my parts from www.mouser.com. They have no minimum and looks like they ship to Canada.
