First of all, I do not claim to be an expert on Unitrunker... matter of fact, last time I used it in earnest I think was with an OPTOCOM... many moons ago.. I do not yet have a P2 capable scanner ... but will be getting a TRX-2 in the coming weeks.
anyway - KSC just switched from an old Type 2 system to a P25 P2 system. From what I can tell, it is not an "X2" system as DSD+ has not been able to decode a single transmission (and DSD+ works fine on other local P1 systems... so I know it's working)
my setup is: 2 RTL-SDR USB dongles going to a rooftop antenna via a multicoupler. Receive is 99%.
First observation - this is a multi-site system. Some of the info below is not currently in the RR database for this system.....
Unitrunker under "peers" is reporting:
BEE00-959 Site 001-002 Control 06-1195 407.8375 (verified as I hear 407.8375 w CC data for Site 002)
BEE00-959 Site 001-003 Control 06-0062 406.175 (cannot hear this channel at all.... static)
*** we will get back to 06-0062/406.175 in a minute.
So, first question (assumption?) sort of is... based on the above, this is a 3 site system, not two.
As for the main site data, one question (for me - dumb?) is this whole "LCN" thing as associated with Motorola/P25 trunking --- I thought only EDACS and LTR used this concept (??) I am including the LCNs I see on my Unitrunker screen just for discussion - I don't know if they are relevant - but I assume they are relevant otherwise they wouldn't be displayed.....
Site 001 - which I would bet is on the Vehicle Assembly Building - actual Unitrunker dump:
LCN Freq
06-0067 406.2375 (CC data - verified)
06-0083 406.4375
06-0099 406.6375
06-0115 406.8375
06-0147 407.2375
07-0396 406.6375
07-0397
07-0396 406.6375
07-0397
07-0460 406.8375
07-0461
07-0524 407.0375
07-0525
07-0588 407.2375
07-0589
From what I understand the duplicate LCNs are the channels with two TDMA slots --- got it... easy.
Site 002 - Shilo (a "city" at the north end of the county) - Actual Unitrunker dump:
LCN Freq
00-0001 406.175 **remember that this freq is being reported as a "peer" site 3 control channel (!?!?!)
00-0002 409.425
00-0003 409.6375
06-0067 406.2375
06-0195 407.8375
06-0211 408.0375
06-0243 408.4375
06-0290 409.025
07-1036 408.6375
07-1037
So (assumption) only one of the repeaters on Site 002 is configured for P2/TDMA operation (?)
As for Site 003 - I might have to take a field trip and see if I can hear anything on 406.175 (?) at some location other than my residence.
So - the big question for me ..... with a TRX-2 as the decoder (scanner) as set up in Unitrunker.... will it be able to decode the LCN data to get to the correct Time-Slot of the TDMA channel being used?
This is a big deal (at least I think it is) for trying to map out the users on the system... unless there is some other way to do a raw decode on the TRX-2 of the P2 CC data (basically force the TRX-2 to follow every single active talkgroup via a wildcard...) (keep in mind I do not own a TRX-2 and have never used one... )
another factor that may help - this is a brand new system... it was literally turned on a few weeks ago... so I suspect that some things / channels / talkgroups / parameters are still a bit fluid as the system is optimized.... you can tell from the current RR system info screen that the data there is not 100% (i'll help with that in the coming days)
anyways, thoughts, questions... whatever.... ?
