Public Safety Director John Mallott requested the council set aside up to $10,000 so Kennett Police and fire department radios can get on the Missouri Statewide Interoperability Network (MOSWIN). "You can literally take a portable and stand here in the council room and talk to another person in Kansas City on a radio through this network, and it's crystal clear," said Mallott. "The tower sits on NN Highway, and the tower and everything with it are maintained by the state. It doesn't cost us anything to use it." According to the Missouri Department of Public Safety website, the project provides the infrastructure that will make interoperable communications possible throughout the state to both state public safety agencies and any local jurisdictions that wish to use the system. The council is expected to take up Mallott's request at the next meeting.
