Just bought a used 830s and fired it up. All sound, knobs, and meter's working, though no frequency showing.

Google came up with re-soldering all connectors. :/ I'd hate to go that far. I've grounded the unit and allowed time for the heater to kick in.

Any suggestions?

Suggestion

If the entire display is not functional then a good item to check is the
one thing in common with all the display digits which is the display
module ground connection.

Some older Kenwood units were notorious for heat flexing the boards and ground screws unwinding from same. The easiest thing to check would be to re-tighten any loose board mounting screws. I wound up putting lockwashers in. Power off first... :-/

Thank you guys! I will try to tighten the board screws. The seller offered an exchange for one of his other 830's
