Maybe this is just the way the radio is, but I'm barely able to see the screen in sunlight. I've checked brightness and contract and even reset the radio. Anyone else have this problem and is there a fix?

I have the same problem. I found by accident that if I put a white piece of paper just below the display, the contrast improves. I used a white 3x5 index card.

Welcome to every display ever made for a mobile ham rig.
You will be hard pressed to find one that worked well in direct sunlight. To be fair, when the sun is on your infotainment system screen, it's hard to read as well.
