If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've looked all over the software and have done searches for it but I'm not having much luck.

I have a couple DMR capable Kenwood NX5xxx series radios and while I normally prefer fewer electronic noises than more, I have found it really helpful, especially when driving, to have a "talk permit" tone when talking into a DMR system.

My radios give the "bonk" when a repeater can't be reached, but is there a spot to enable a tone for when the talk path is completed?

This would be for DMR conventional repeater operation.

Thanks
-Josh

It can, but I find it useful to have a consistent OK-to-talk prompt when you use a mix of analog, DMR, maybe PTT ID signalling, etc.. That way, my brain doesn't have to be bothered with remembering which channel I'm on, distracting me from more important things, like driving. :)

The PTT proceed tone is the correct option, we use it to make the users pause before talking. Some of our users start talking right as they key the radio!

Josh and I talked over the phone and got it straightened out.

PTT Proceed, MDC BOT, NO SIDE TONE, works like he wants it to.

Umm.... well, you didn't talk to me.. but using the PPT proceed tone as does what I am looking for for DMR... I'll have to see how it will grow on me for simplex and analog modes.

my error. Had another guy call me after seeing this post. Then another guy called me also wanting the same info. All Good.
Again, the PTT-Proceed is all that is, a go-ahead chirp. (or burp) whatever...

I enabled it on the NX700 and the NX200 I use to use at work. Got so use to it, when I used my TM-V71A before I sold it, I was pausing waiting to hear the PPT that never came.

It's good because it forces you to pause and talk after keying the radio.

I set the delay for 200ms, good for junk radios to decode PL/DPL and pass audio before you start talking.

I use it on all my radios that are capable of it. For my XTS2500's, I use the clear TX alert for the same reason.
