• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I don't think you watched where the mic cord is plugged into at the 18 second mark ... and ... the video is on an official Kenwood YouTube account. Thanks for playing!

IRC, you can order the NX1K or NX3K with that microphone connector. Can't remember which one.

And that speaker-mic has been discontinued for several years now. KMC-70/72 are the current ones.

On the NX-3000 series, you can order the two pin or the 14 pin.
I'm having trouble finding that option anywhere. You sure? The 3x00 manual shows the 14-pin connector and the 3x20 manual (and radios I have seen) are all 2-"pin".

The two pin needs to die a fiery death...

On a serious note, you actually loose some Bluetooth features on the two pin version of the NX-3000 so if you ever want to do anything with BLE...not supported on a two pin.
I hate those things. Broke 2 KPG-22 cables due to pins breaking off. NX3200 and NX3300 are the Multi pin radios.

NMO's installed, while-u-wait.

NX-3x00 is the 14 pin model.
NX-3x20 is the 2 pin model.

You order the model you want.

Like others, I avoid the 2 pin radios unless it's one of the lower tier where it's the only option. (ie: NX-1000 line)

Interesting note from the catalog:
Note: KMC-45 (Non D version) is not compatible with DMR (TDMA) operaiton.
which is weird, given the non-D version is no longer in the catalog (and presumably not orderable). I guess they're saying you can't re-use your old 2-pin mics when you "upgrade" to DMR.

A similar note is on the KMC-9C desk mic, confirming the KMC-59C note that says:
Note: Compatible with FDMA (analog / NXDN) and TDMA (DMR) Operation.
Anyone know the details of the reason?

It had to do with the pulse rate of DMR getting into the audio on the portable radios. Needed some extra filtering.

Not an issue on mobiles where the antenna is physically separated from the radio.

From the NX-3000 function reference manual:

To use Portable in a DMR Conventional system, always use KMC-45D. Burst noise may occur if an external microphone

other than KMC-45D is used.

The mobiles did have the same issue, that is why the switched from the KMC-35 to the 65's.

Motorola PMMN4013 had the same issue. Older ones don't play nice on DMR. The updated ones have a square wave on the connector meaning that it will work with Digital radio.

In case anyone was wondering why that square wave was on the those connectors.
