If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello- with Motorola system programing when setting up a mix mode personality you can set the radio to NOT pick a talk group. In the Armada software when programming a mix mode channel I cant find a way to NOT have the radio pick a talk group, other than talk group 1 with an ID of 1. Im guessing that most systems default to an ID of one, even if they aren't using TG's on that repeater, but I cant confirm that as Ive never ran into this issue previously with motos. Is there a way to have the radio not use a TG on a mix mode system?

With my Kenwood/EFJ radios using a talk group of FFFF will open on any incoming TG (talk group equivalent to nacf7e) and outgoing opens all other radios (all call).

I’m not sure any radio can actually send P25 without a TG. The default TG 1 is what all my receiving radios show when TX radio appears to be set to No TG on radios that permit it.

Talkgroup 1 is the same as none

No, it's not. It TG 1.
I ran into that problem with NX-3300's at first, putting them into systems that had Vertex EVX series radios. The Vertex's all defaulted to TG 1, and the KW's defaulted to no TG, like they do for NXDN. They did not talk to each other, so I had to re-program and put TG 1 into all the KW's.

I was curious last year and did a bunch of P25 testing between my NX-5300, Xg-100p and XTS-5000, and none of the cared if it was TG0 or none. I don't have any Viking line radios, but I was assuming it is the same (it wasn't mentioned above, but I can assume the question was about P25, not DMR).
NX-3300 would only do DMR, which is picky between talkgroups.

When I put TG 0 in my VP8000 the channel became “Receive Only”. So far for me TG FFFF is as close to CSQ as I can get in P25 (293 TX and F7E RX NAC). I don’t think there is a broadcast or ALL CALL TX NAC…

TG0 is an all call and can only be transmitted from a console, thus the RX only.
