To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey, everybody. I am new to working with NXDN. I recently purchased a used Kenwood NX-300-K4 station. I want to use it with my mmdvm pi-star hotspots. Both are Chinese made but seem to support NXDN mode. I tried to create my codeplug from scratch. I created a NXDN channel with the hotspot frequency. I also set my official NXDN ID everywhere. When trying to transmit, the hotspot does not react. Perhaps I have not programmed the station correctly. Maybe someone can tell me the correct steps for programming this radio. For programming I use the application KPG-111Dv.5. Thanks in advance.

Check your BER and tune the hotspot accordingly. You also need to enable NXDN on the hotspot. Also, it may take a second for the transmission to be captured by the hotspot, quick blips are not ideal.

What channel bandwidth did you choose, narrow (12.5) or very narrow (6.25)? MMDVM only supports NXDN with 6.25 AFAIK.

So, It didn't work for hotspots. But I did get some response from our local digital repeater.

It looks like you aren't assigning a talkgroup. While NXDN can work without talkgroups, PiStar needs a talkgroup.

@UR5FCA Try calling TG 37500 (Belarus multimode) or 63600 (Latvia multimode).

@tweiss3 Correct. The talkgroup within NXDNGateway (same is with P25) context is an index which points to the respective reflector host.

Looks like the selected group in the screenshot is "10" which should be the "parrot" group, which should work.

I have no idea why it isn't even partially working. No special tuning of the hot spot is needed for receive, so it should be at least receiving- even if for some reason your radio won't receive the response due to a tuning issue.

Yeah! When I push PTT button , I get voice message: "no linked" But as I understand, parrot should work.

Do I need to prescribe TG in the station or in the NXDN settings in Pi-star?

In the station so it transmits the respective TG. In Pi-Star it is needed as well so the reflector of your choice is enabled by default. Otherwise switching them could take some time.

I never owned a NXDN radio myself, I just know the foundations of how it works :)

In the pi-star, the NXDN groups are set by PTT to connect. You will need the groups set in the radio to transmit to the right groups. You may have "10" as the default, but unless the radio is transmitting to group 10, it will think that the pi-star is changing groups. The radio defaults to no group, or '0', so transmitting it will give you the "not linked" as zero is not a valid reflector group.

Set up groups in the radio and assign the group list to the channel. Then go into the radio's contact list to find the group you want (try 10 for example) and PTT to the pi-star and you'll likely find that it will work.

All right, boys! Thanks everyone for the very helpful hints. I've figured out a lot of things thanks to you guys. But there are still a couple of questions I don't understand. There is this resource: NXDN Dashboard
Their NXDN Reflector 711. I see it in the general list of Pi-Star . And I've already connected to it. But I see that they have a list of rooms. By default, I'm connected to the English room. (Dest 11). I wonder how to connect to the other rooms. (Like the ECHO room, Dest 99.)

P.S. And I see my hotspots do not support NXDN mode. Well there is a local repeater with support for this mode. I ordered mmdvm modem with NXDN support from the Chinese).
