To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I saw in the Kenwood 2010 product catalog that the NX300 series radio can be upgraded to P25 conventional. Can anyone confirm this? I know that it is a NexEdge radio but didn't think it could be made P25.

Thanks

Yes you can. But it is really expensive and you have to send it back to Kenwood to have it done.
Plus you have buy the p25 software for that radio. The 111D will not work after the conversion.

But would it still be cheaper than buying like a TK-5320? If so, it's worth it.

How much is a TK-5320 anyways? I've got an NX-300 and love it.

from the kenwood price page:
FIRMWARE OPTIONS LIST
KWD-P25C P25 Flash upgrade; NX-200/300/700/800
Must order L-1663
List Price $792.00
Note: KWD-P25C will be Kenwood factory installed only (units must be returned for upgrade)

Plus you would need the new programming software, the existing KPG-111 wont program it.

The 5320 package lists for around $1300. Add another 500 for the trunking option if you wanted/needed P25 trunking. And add $150 for the KPG-112DK. Total = $1950

So yes, it would be cheaper. But me personally I would rather have to separate radios for the separate digital formats.
