• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is QT/DQT supposed to be working as of V1.40? Unless I am missing something obvious, none of my programmed channels appear to have tone protection. Transmitting works fine, but decode doesn't. I am using OST on some personalities, but not the ones that are "hard-toned". This doesn't seem to be an issue with any other KWD models.
I have not verified if it's working for the digital modes yet.

I ended up rebuilding the .dat file from scratch and that fixed it. Not sure if I missed something in the original file or if it was corrupt.

On another note, anyone heard if the Tactical Feature Set will ever be available with these radios?

Well, when you are responding to a large brush fire in Southern California, it is much faster to take pre-programmed channels from different groups and put them into one vs. futzing around with having to program frequencies, tones, channel names, etc from scratch. FPP is mandatory in my application (for the rare occasion that we do not have a frequency pre-programmed) and TFS makes life a lot easier for the ones that we do. A wildland fire will typically have a minimum of 4 channels assigned initially and it can ramp up quickly from there. These frequencies can vary. It is also not feasible to put all of the possibilities into one group for several reasons. We use TK-2180's now and they have both FPP and TFS.

Scanning Issue (Mobile)

Good evening,

My agency recently purchased several NX5700 mobiles and portables in this series. In the programming phase I've enjoyed working with the various features, but I'm having one problem that I can't find a fix for on the mobile.

While scanning, and after landing on a P25 conventional channel, the radio will not resume scanning, but rather dwells on the channel until I either remove the mic from the hanger, or tap the PTT. The scan icon on the screen just flashes while it's dwelling on the channel, and the received radio ID is frozen on the screen. About 5% of the time the radio will resume scanning normally, but for the most part, an intervention is required.

Does anyone know what this could be, or have I discovered a bug? I've went through every field, from top to bottom in the software, but I can't find anything. Thank you in advance for your time in reading this!

Did you decrease dwell time? I notice it as well but not really paid attention to it... I will check with long beach and let you know in a bit.

I checked, and the following are the current settings:

Scan> Scan Information> Dropout delay Time: 3s
Scan> Scan Information> Dwell Time: 3s

I'm just wondering if there is a check box I've missed, or another setting that pertains to P25 and scanning. The NX5000 portables are not in yet, but I'm using the same settings as my TK5210, and XTS5000. I've set many scan lists up in the past, but never had this problem.

I appreciate you looking into it for me.

Please email me your .dat file of the radio you have the issue on, send it to my gmail. I have tech support
at KWD who wants to look at it. Include your phone number so they can contact you.
I have to send him my uhf, as i duplicated it also.

I am a lineman for the county.
I received mine, but not for the NX-5000. I'm using for NX-210's and TK-5x10's.

Took me a while to get it. They changed the procedure earlier this year, so they had me submit a new application. After the new application was in it took a week or so.

Might be worth following up with Raul.

May be stupid question, but having a senior moment: I have 48 channels in my list, how do I break them down into zones??

Know it is something right in front of me, but having brain fart. I need beer to fix it.

How do you have your radio laid up as? personality?

There are two modes you can do the radio as, personality or zones. Flipping to the other will cause previous
to become deleted. Choice wisely. Backup your current, then play.
