• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all!

Will these radios work with old serial programming cables? KPG-36 for portables and KPG-46 for mobiles. New cables have the same numbers, but with UM suffix.

Yes. I have used one without issue, other than 5-10 minute write times.

Kenwood NX-5300

Hello All,

I am looking for some guidance. I purchased the NX-5300K5 model recently and am stuck in a bind now. I understand about the programming software and license keys that are needed in order for the radio to work. I contacted my local Kenwood dealer and was advised that I could not obtain the software, due to not being a dealer. I will be honest I bought this radio from eBay. Radio has never been programmed or used and is new in the box, so I don't even know what options are installed on the radio. For my area all I need is conventional analog and conventional P25. No Trunking or NXDN needed. Does these radios come standard with Conventional P25? Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction on where or how I can get my radio programmed, please

Thanks
Cody

They come with NXDN. You need to purchase the P-25 feature. You should be able to purchase the software from a Kenwood Dealer, I would try a different one if you had no luck

I bought one from eBay too. They are dealer's demo. It's crazy if they will not have P25. How dealers should demostrate P25 mode?

Guys,

Is it possible to transfer KPG-D1NK license from one PC to another? For e.g. if you decided to sell your favourite PC and buy a new one? Most of SW manufactures with online licensing offers Deactivation and Activation features. But how about Kenwood?

Yes. I haven't personally done it, but it can be done through the License Management Client bundled with KPG D-1N.

Hi all!

Anybody have genuine USB cables for new 5000 series? How exactly they works? Natively via USB or via emulated serial port? Looks lilke USB is not supported at all, because KPG-1DN's Setup menu titled as 'COM Port' and allow me to choose only COM ports. Is it true?

Looks as if your looking for it to act like the Hytera CPS... short answer no. All USB's are labeled as com port. (that I have dealt with in KWD)

I have heard from a couple of people the USB is faster than the serial cable (which I have).
but for the most part, it's still a LOT OF RADIO in that code plug. 345 (V) and 413 (U) channels takes about 3 to 3 and a half minutes.

By the way gang, I have on good word from Georgia, the multi-deck option and next firmware update due out
the September time frame. I also have the KCH-20R on the 5700, looks awesome. I will have pictures up on nxdninfo.com in a few days when I get it installed in my work truck, then the 5800 will get mounted
in the back (dash mount currently) and married to the 5700 when the cable comes out. One control head, two rf decks, P25, FPP and NXDN Trunking. OH YEAH. Guess I will be getting my TK-5720 cleaned up and think about selling it (has the DES/AES-OFB module in it).

cheers!

Thanks!

Looks like there is not native USB support at all. It's sick. And I am not sure that new USB cables wors faster. I am using KPG-46 with USB-2-Serial adapter on 115,200 bps and it takes a few minutes to write my radio.

Could you please post image of KCH-20R? There are not pictures of it available.

Thanks, but it's not clear. Small and blured. Cannot understand some new controls.

So I want to see the HQ picture of new head.

Thanks!
