• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anyone able to provide an update as to which flavors are currently available? Last I heard, UHF portables and mobiles were it.

Thanks,
Mark

I am curious as to the Bluetooth options. Does anyone know if you would have to stick with a Kenwood set, or might a Pryme set be compatible?

As I have read all the documents, there is no Kenwood manufactured Bluetooth. So Pryme and what ever else is out there will work.

P25 Phase1 / 2

From what I am told, there are at least 300 of the NX-5400's out in Texas being ran through their paces
and a few in Alabama (location was not told to me) and reports are they are working well.

I have the 5300/5800 and no Phase 1 or 2 UHF trunking anywhere in range of me in Central Florida so
i did not get that option. No real need for it just yet. Government sales around here is in bed with batwingers.
Unless JVC/Kenwood gives them for free like a birthday cake, hard press in this area. Too many Sheriffs and Police chiefs who think 7,500$ radios are the things to have on ones belt.

I will say in all honesty, I am seeing a reboot on my mobile, and it's not constant. Even when power is direct
to B+, it will reboot on a P25 channel once in a while. Hard to pin it down, but I have submitted my info back
to Tech Support and a few other I know at Long Beach Kenwood.

It's funny when you call your Kenwood dealer for a quote and you know more about the radio than they do [emoji39]

I guess that comes with buying the latest and greatest sometimes!

Very true. I tried my local shop back in September-ish. i was explaining what I wanted quoted, and they knew almost nothing about them, so I told them what they are in a nutshell. Unfortunately they didn't have the price list out yet either.
