Kenwood NX-5200 Software Key

I purchased the key from an authorized dealer. I was emailed the link to set up the registration process. I've attempted to register the key with no success. Here are the details of what I have attempted so far;
HP laptop with windows 7 professional
I've logged in as administrator
I"ve logged in as PC
I created a new user profile and logged in that way from online recommendations
I deleted all the files and then reloaded them multiple times
I made sure I extracted the files using winzip
I confirmed that I selected the online in the setup window



When I try to drag and drop the registration file into the License Management Client window, I get a black circle with a line through it indicating that this function is not allowed, This happens regardless of how I have logged onto the computer

My research says this is a possible permission error blocking this procedure

Looking for recommendations/solutions

LMC 2.0 and later, which is what is required to talk to the Kenwood licensing servers now, does not run on Win7. You need Win10 or later.

Thank you, the dealer who sold the license to our EMS service said it would work on Win 7, so I will be contacting him and let him know it will not work, as a dealer, he should have know this, I'm disappointed with the dealer's misrepresentation

It is best to use LMC 2.02 and run it as an administrator. The server status should then show as Online.

Dragging and dropping the JKEFA file does not always work, depending on the user permissions and security settings. In that case, you can open the JKEFA file in a text editor, copy its contents to the clipboard, and paste them into the program. This method always works.

I also have a funny story about this. An older gentleman who was not very comfortable using computers once told me that he manually retyped the key, one character at a time, from one computer to another. He kept walking back and forth between the two computers to do it. That is probably the most complicated and impractical method imaginable, but he managed to enter the entire key correctly on his second attempt and was very proud of himself. LOL.

Windows 7 is still fine for LMC and D1. At least, I tested it with LMC 2.01 and D1 software version 5.2x. However, it is already nearing the end of its support life. I expect support for it to be discontinued soon, just as it was in the Armada software.

@AlexCA I wonder if something has changed since this happened in January 2024. The relevant thread is KPT300 v2.0 on Windows 7. I wonder if MSFT got talked into pushing out a TLS1.2 update with the necessary cipher support. Or Kenwood backed out the strong cipher requirement in their server.

It may be because I had been “extending the life” of my Windows 7 installation by manually adding certificates and installing updates that were not delivered through Windows Update. I used the Enterprise edition with a VL license and downloaded numerous .msi packages and other files that resolved various compatibility issues as they arose.

As a result, I probably ended up with a somewhat more capable and up-to-date Windows 7 installation than the average home user.

That machine identifies itself as Windows 7 SP1, version 6.1, build 7601. It was still working with fully legitimate copies of D1 and D3 fairly recently, about six months ago. I am not in the office right now, so I cannot check it.

However, we are going to upgrade that machine to Windows 10 because Armada has not worked on it for almost two years, which is quite annoying. They updated the driver used to communicate with the radio, making it incompatible with Windows 7.

Just advice when not using it make sure you cancel aka deactivate the software license with the server. Itll save head aches to deal with if your pc crashed or other hardware issue. Reactivate when needed for nx line.
