To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi
Has anyone ever had an issue with reading the RF Deck after setting up the remote head. I have a single RF Deck to Remote head. The firmware for both the units is the same and I have confirmed the checksum. The radio when in home screen works normally., however when I try to read the radio the Remote Head goes into program mode then immediately kicks out and I get a com port, check connectivity error msg. I have checked the cabling from KRK-15 via KCT-71 to KCH19 with KRK14 and also that all the dip switches are on for both sides as per the procedure..

Any ideas how to resolve greatly appreciated

What I missed was your firmware version on both, though you didn't say fw mismatch.

What version do you have?
Are you trying to read using multideck?
Which cable are you using? OEM, Or ebay bought

I could log onto the radio as a single unit no problem using the OEM Kenwood UART cable. I updated the firmware as per the procedures. for single RF deck and Remote Head, I confirmed I could log into the radio in the shop, then deployed to the clients' location to install. Installed everything but had to make changes to the Aux pins to facilitate intercom function and could not get into the radio (read). The radio operate normally with a hand mic.

No the DB25 is for the Setcom....trying to use the Kenwood UART cable that I know works (I programmed the radio with it) to go through the remote head

Surely iI do not have to remove the Setcom cable from the DB 25 port, before I can read the radio, make the Aux pin changes and write then install Setcom cable!

Woodie, what is your firmware version?
The NX5000 is USB native, if your using a windows 10 pc, should be in USB mode not UART.
Unless it was programmed for SD CARD USB ACCESS, then you should be able to talk via the head.
The DB25 will not block programming from the head.
