• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can someone help me out I am looking for the software that I need to install on my computer to be able to enter the code key. I was told to download it from Kenwood's website but I am not able to find it, also any recommendations for a cable to purchase to hook my computer to the mobile radio to program it?

The programming software is KPG-D1N and it comes with the license manager, KPT-300LMC. But yeah, you'll probably need the help of a dealer or someone who's done it to get everything installed and working and use it – some of it is not very intuitive.

nbfd23,

I just went through this...

You will need:
1. KPG-D1N_V510 software (radio programming software)

2. KPT-300LMC_V201 (kenwood's License Management Client)

3. Install #2 and then #1.

4. Open #2 and you will drag and drop the license file for the KPG-D1N_V510 authentication: DEALER_KPG-D1N_W_xxxxx.jkefs. The 'W' means the entitlement to program wide FM frequencies such as for AMATEUR RADIO. I cannot remember the exact procedure. There are a lot of youtube videos on this. There is a series by specialty communications. At this point you can start programming your radio; however, you will NOT be able to 'activate' entitlements/features for which you bought licenses for until you complete step 5.

5. Once you are done with #4, you HAVE to authenticate/create 'your account' with Kenwood if you wish to add entitlements/features to your radio(s). To do this, you drag and drop: KWD-ACT___xxx.jkefa into the KPT-300LMC_V201. Again, I cannot remember the exact procedure although I just did this last night. Go look al specialty communication's youtube videos.

If anyone else wants to correct my write up please do so. I'd hate for other people to go through the same struggle I went through.

NMO's installed, while-u-wait.
Only thing I'd add is that the NX series radios don't need a W license to do wide band on VHF below 150.1MHz. At least none of our NX-5700's or 5200's have (or NX-210s, NX-700's, NX3200's)

If you need wideband above 150.1MHz (marine VHF), or on any part of the UHF band (including GMRS or amateur), you -do- need the W license.

If you download the KPGD1N from Dealer Tools, it has the KPGD1N, KFL, and the version 1 of the LMC. So you have to download the version 2 of the LMC from Dealer Tools in order for everything to work.
