ok thinking about getting a kenwood th6a in the upcoming months, the one thing I have heard and read is that it has excellent rx range on the hf/ssb/cw.Now my question is,for those put there who have/or own one.Is this with or without the stock antenna ?

Longer antenna for sure. In my opinion the th6a is still one of the absolute all around best dual band HTs out there. It doesn't do all the new digital stuff but If I could only have a single HT this would be my pick for sure. The wide rx coverage does require different antennas to get the most out of it. I use a Diamond SRH77CA most of the time with very good results. You can get decent rx on lower bands with a long wire on an SMA connector.

A neat trick to use a wire antenna if you don't have a extra SMA connector laying around to us on the thf6a or ANY wide band talkie, is to get one of the 6m,2m,70cm ducks for the old yaesu vx5's and simply take off the top cap used for the 6m stub and attach your long wire there!
There might be other aftermarket ducks that use use the removable stub for 6m too.
Since I already had a vx5, I tried a wire on the threaded top after removing the cap and it works great! This should work even better on the thf6a.
