Hi there,

My friend is selling his Kenwood TK-2180 for a pretty good price. I'm curious if this radio would be able to pick up Edmonton Fire, EMS, and/or Police radio frequencies?

Thanks!

NO

It is a two way radio not a scanner. It is a VHF transceiver and Fire, EMS and Police are in the 800 MHz band at the present time. And if you want to transmit with that transceiver an license from Industry Canada is a must legal responsibility.

No, as Robertmac said, that radio will not receive EPS/EFR/EMS. Edmonton use an 800MHz EDACS system. You will need a scanner capable of following an EDACS system.

Thank you for your replies. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction, or recommend a scanner that would work on the 800MHz EDACS system?

Any that can track an EDACS system, most modern trunk trackers will follow EDACS, but will not decode Provoice
