• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I got a Kenwood TK-270 that I just got and I'm fairly new to... My issue is that I can key up to transmit but no voice! But you can hear the thump if you tap on the mic.. Me and my buddy was trying to talk on a simplex channel but every time i go to transmit (No Voice) is there a setting that might be off? or does anyone have any ideas as to what that might be?

You may be close enough to the other radio to be completely overloading it. Try getting a few hundred feet apart and see what happens.

That don't explain why we can't talk on a repeater? I can transmit but no voice but we can hear tap tap tap when we tap the mic bot built in and plugged in....

It does depending on the input and output offset. A strong radio signal, even if not on the same frequency, can overload the front end of the receiver.

Other things to look at would be if the radio is really transmitting on frequency or not. TK270's have been around for a while. Could be that it's in need of a tune up.

Press and hold (light) & (dial) while turning on radio.

Hold until (SEL) appears on the display.

Pressing (SCN) allows you to program the following

1. Monitor Key
Off = off
1 = Monitor momentary means that it will open squelch while you hold the monitor button if it is set
up to open with a tone like a minitor pager

2 = Monitor Lock open squelch and leave it open till you push the button again
3 = Squelch off momentary basically the same function as 1

2. Scan Key
Off = off
Co = carrier operate locks on ch until the carrier closes then resumes scanning
To = Time operate stays on ch for determined set time in secs set up down further in the list

3. Dial Key
Off = off this is if you have a interconnect system for ph calls or to call another radio if it requires a tone to open the squelch
On = enable

4. TA key
TA = talkaround if you have a repeater and a direct channel you can use this rather than programming 2 chs if it is set for TA when pushed you will tx on the rx channel
RV = Reverse Set for RV you will TX and RX on the TX channel
Off

5. Lo Key
On tx power if you set a ch to transmit on Hi you can temporaly tx on Lo
Off

6. Priority
None
1 = fixed Fixed is determined in initial programming of your freqs or you can set it as selected so that whatever ch your selector is on is the priority ch
2 = selected

7. Fixed Priority Channel
Turn selector to channel this is if you have step 6 set for fixed priority

8. Look back time A steps 8 and 9 are for the look back times when scanning for the priority channel
Turn selector to time in seconds

9. Look back time B
Turn selector to time in seconds

10. Revert Channel (similar to a home channel or while scanning if you transmit and it goes back to scanning when you key up again this is what channel it would go back to)
1 = Selected
2 = Last Call
3 = Last used
4 = Selected + Talkback
5 = Priority
6 = Priority + Talkback

11. Tx Dwell time steps 11-16 I haven't messed with ask an expert lol
