If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,
I was on a forum and i read something about custom firmware for the 272g that updates the pager alert tone. I have been searching for hours now looking for the firmware but i have been unable to obtain the software. PLEASE help! I would really like to get a better alert tone other than the original beep beep beep which isn't very "alerting" or catches my attention. Any thoughts/help will be be very much appreciated.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME!!

I would try contacting Kenwood directly and asking them, if you get the product number, you can probably google it, then look it up on a peer to peer program, thats how i downloaded all of my software. For my radio it puts out a really loud hi-lo tone, suits me ok, but it would be nice to have something else in it.

You are looking for the custom fire firmware that gives the new alert tone, opens at the start of the 2nd tone, auto back-light, etc.. I don't know what the check-sum is, but your local dealer should be able to get it for you and flash your radio. PM me if more help is needed.

Is this something that i can install or program into the radio myself? or does it need to be taken apart and serviced. i have the program cable and software.

You need the file (x72_8986.hex), FPRO.exe and the cable (I would use a factory cable). No need to open the radio.
