Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Kenwood TK-3180 I am trying to program it to act as a fire pager I have never used the 2-tone feature before on this radio and I'm struggling to figure out how to do it.

we are paged out by pd on 46.26 MHz with tones 617.4 and 584.8

If anyone would be able to explain how I make the TK-3180 do that I would really appreciate it.

The TK-3180 is a UHF radio, it is only capable of working on 400-470MHz, or 450-520MHz, depending on the sub model.

There is NO way to make it work on 46MHz. It can't be programmed to work there, it cannot be modified to work there.

OK, that makes more sense.

In your Channel Edit:
You'll need to set up a channel in your radio with the new frequency.
Set up the Optional Signaling for that channel to "2-tone 1"

Go to the 2-Tone window and the "Decode 2-Tone 1" tab.
Set your Call Format to A-B,
Set Transpond to no
Set Alert Tone to 1, or whichever alert tone you want to use.
Set your A and B tones.
If you want auto reset, set the time.
Click the "LED", "Alert Tone" and "Monitor" boxes.

That should get you started. There's a lot of other options, but without knowing how your agency uses the, or how you want to use them, it's something you'll need to figure out.
