If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Howdy.

I have been trying to program my TK-5310. The KPG-95dj v7.01 software will read from the radio, but it will not write back to the radio. The following error comes up:

An error (s) has been detetcted in the following entry.
"Data System-Personality"

There is no problem when reading/writing from an earlier version of the software (v5.41 I think-it is a friends software not mine).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

David

That is a user programming error. Kinda like setting a home channel button to a channel that doesn't exist.
You'll have to poke around in personalities to see if there is anything that doesn't jive.

What I don't know is why the difference between older and newer software. The newer FPU may have added feature sets and for some reason doesn't like how the older programming is laid out. A firmware upgrade may help.

Re: Error

Thanks for the response.

I did poke around all the personalties, and nothing seems to be amiss. Took a while too-there are 392 channels. I wiped the radio clean, and re-installed the program using the old software. Again, no issues reading/writing with the earlier version, but the new version will only read, not write. Same error code comes up...

I will try and do a firmware update and see if that makes a difference...

Check your zone information and all your tabs, make sure that a data channel isn't selected to something it shouldn't be. Sounds like a data system was enabled when you don't have a data system in the radio, If that makes sense. Just go through and disable data systems. I ran into this problem, except it said something about emergency personality, and it was set to fixed instead of selected, and the option was set to none with no channel information.

Thanks

Thanks for the response.

I haven't actually had the time to get into the radio again and check out the data system workaround you suggested. I will post again when/if one of the solutions works...
