Hello Everyone, this is the first of many questions regarding the Kenwood TK-630H-2 radio transceiver. I work as a car-service driver in Brooklyn, NY. This radio is the most popular transceiver used to communicate with the car-service base/dispatcher.

I bought one from ebay a while ago and it works fine, but I found that I am not transmitting as fast as some of my other co-workers even when transmitting before anyone; thus, losing a possible fare. My first question is if there is an antenna booster or something similar that will amplify my signal so that I may compete with my fellow co-workers.

We need more info. Does your company have a repeater or is this simplex operation(transmit and receive on the same frequency)? Do you know the frequencies? There is no speed involved with a transmitter or receiver so I guess you mean they are transmitting over the top of you? More detail please....

EDIT: We also need to know things like how much power your company transmitter puts out, what kind of antenna and how high up it is mounted on a tower or building top, etc etc...

fineshot1's request is valid, but one other point to consider.

It not uncommon to PTT and start talking at the same time. You might be cutting off the 1st fraction of a second of what you are saying. If that is your identification and the dispatcher does not catch who you are he will pickup the next one he does understand. My assumption is that the net is very competitive and 1st heard gets the call. Is that true? It might be so competitive that asking the dispatcher or other drivers face-to-face about you transmissions might not get you good feedback. On the other hand you may find out that some other characteristic of you transmission is faulty. Weak or garbled making you hard to understand.

Good luck sorting it out.

Thanks to everyone who replied and will reply.

Weeeell, I don't know much about the technology, but I do know that the company transmits/receives on DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES and yeah, what I meant is that they are transmitting over me as if my signal was not as clear/strong as theirs. I don't think my radio is transmitting as strong as it should... I just would like something, if there is such a thing that will boost my transmission signal.

By the way, the kind of antennas we use are NMO antennas that are either mounted on the cars or held in place by magnets. The operating frequency is between 35~42mhz, and the transmit/receive signals like I said before, are different but whithin this range.

Sorry, but with the little tid-bit of info you have provided I can not tell you much. You might at least tell us what kind of antenna is on your vehicle - brand and model. Perhaps you need a better quality antenna or perhaps your radio needs to be checked by a professional.....

EDIT: Your radio is a 110 Watt model so there is not much improvement on that as it is about the most practical maximum you can go.

That radio has plenty of power as designed.

fineshot1 is right on the mark. Get the radio and antenna checked out by a pro. You are losing power somewhere.
