If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

I'm trying to set a high/low power selector functionality to a button on the front panel of a TK-7180E using the KPG-92D, v1.70. I just can't seem to find it... :(

I've set squelch off, scan add/remove, brightness, function, etc. But there is not transmit power selector.

I have two zones as a workaround, one for low, one for high power. Not very elegant....

There isn't one.

These are not ham radios and users selecting power levels isn't usually something that is needed/wanted on LMR radios. Power levels are dictated by the license and end users messing with it isn't something system admins want.

Low power button is an option on the portables, but all it does is switch a high power programmed channel to low power, not the other way around, It's purely intended as a battery saving measure.

Thanks for the explanation. Does that mean that if I get 2180/3180, it would have a power setting button?

The TK-2180/3180 has the option to program a button to switch to low power if the channel is programmed for high.

It will not switch a low power programmed channel to high, however.

The mobiles do not have this feature.

Thanks. I may be able to procure decommissioned handheld or two at a good price from a company moving to digital, so the plan is to programme them to ham frequencies and set high power, and use the switch as you described. My other option is decomissioned police motorola GP series, but I already have the software and familiarity with Kenwood, so... And I also have a ham handheld from Kenwood that kicks ***, TH-F7e.

I've got a TK-3180 that I use as my shop radio for the few UHF systems I've got.

They are solid little radios with a lot of features. A ton of accessories are available.
It uses the same chassis as the new NX-x10 series radios, as well as the same 14 pin audio accessory connector as most of the modern Kenwood gear.
