HI All!
I'm excited to join this group and to share that I purchased my first two Ham radios and will be going for mi Tech license in a month or so.
I picked up a Kenwood TK-730 and a TK-270G handheld for low cost with some other gear I bought. My question is, how useful are these radios going to be for me?
I'd like to start in on 2meter band, but I was told I may have to modify the TK-730 to operate in the amateur bands, is that true? I have extensive electronics knowledge so any mods would be ok for me to do, but what exactly would I have to modify?
What about the TK-270g? any info about this handheld?
I basically want to use thee radios to communicate during emergency situations. This past couple months with the blizzards here in SE Mass showed me I need an aux communication device in these situations. I've also always been interested in ham radio since I was a kid, so when I saw the deal for these radios I jumped on it and figured now is a great time to get my license and start on up ;-)
