Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a TK-730HG which I believe should be programmable for narrow band operation. I read the radio with the KPG7D V2.01 which I have successfully used to read & write narrow band programs to other 730HGs. The model type that displayed when I read this radio said it was VHF Hi :150 - 174, not VHF Hi :150 - 174 W/N. I know this radio's program had been created in and programmed with KPG7D V 1.32 which was out before the G series came out and has no provisions for a narrow version of the radio. My question is should I try to create a new program with VHF Hi W/N as the model type & force it in the radio? I didn't want to try it on the client's radio at the time and risk screwing something up and not be able to fix it. I'm wondering if anyone has run into this and tried it. Thanks

If it indeed a 730G, it is capable of wide/narrow. The last time it was programmed it was not as a "G" model. You can change the model to a W/N "G" type without problems, but the user programming will be erased and you will have to start from scratch. As always, read and save first so's you have something to go back to (Jesus saves, so should you).

Thanks again Ramal. As I was writing the post I started kicking myself for being afraid to give it a try. I'm sure that is exactly what happened and how to fix it. Too bad it will clear the data when I change the model type... I just love data entry.
