Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a few kenwood TK-941 radios. One of these radios has a very strange volume issue. When I power up the device, the volume automatically resets to 100 % and you hear the ear piercing "BEEEP!"

So I looked around in the software to see if there was any option for this, but I could not find anything. The only setting that I did find was the "Minimum Volume". Changing this value did not do anything , I changed the minimum volume to "0" but the problem still persists. (I confirmed this by programming the other radios with the same code, and not having the issue)

Does anybody know of any fix to this problem? Perhaps a jumper in the radio, or something I am missing in software?

I also could not change TX power, Deviation, Squelch, etc. on the front panel (the service menu was brought up by pressing group down and power at the same time). The values would not save.

Besides that, the radio works fine. Frequencies or "fcc codes" are programmed into the radio without a problem.

Most ham stuff, outside of 900MHz and digital modes are +/-5.0KHz deviation. As for power, it is likely only changeable via software, on a per channel basis, or via a dedicated button assigned in software.

Can't find anything on a channel basis, but I did find my problem. I can't fix the speaker issue, but I did not program the power in right. I needed to press the "AUX" key.

Well there is no ham equipment for 900MHz, and all of the other modified ham gear I have is 2.5KHz. One of them actually lets me select between 2.5, 4, and 5.
