• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have some questions about programming the TK260 (Not the G model) I grabbed the radio off ebay and I want to program it for my needs.
I bought the KPG27D soiftware and a KPG22 cable (Yeah one of the Hong Kong COM port cables) and I have the software on my windows 7 based computer (it runs in a DOS window) I have heard mixed results about all of this, I have been told to slow my baud rate to 2400 on the com port, but thats about all I have learned about how to program the radio. So what I am looking for is the owners/service manuals (basically instructions on how to program them for rookies) I don't know if they can be found on the internet in PDF form or not, I have googled my brains out with no avail, as the closest I have came is a german one (for the 260G model)
So can anyone help me out with this, if you cant find the manual can someone answer these questions.

1) What do you need to do to put the radio into programming mode (if any)?
2) Do you plug in the radio while it's off and then turn it on or plug it in while it's on?
3) Will my setup work with Windows 7 in a dos window with a Hong Kong cable?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreacated..

For start to program only connect program cables to the radio.

2) Do you plug in the radio while it's off and then turn it on or plug it in while it's on?
Dont shock, don't damage your chip, radio or PC, Turn off radio, netx connect it, turn on, program it, when the Pc acces to the radio display show -PC- or Programming or TEST, When finished, can make a sound, ok, turn off your radio, and later you can extract the cables.

3) Will my setup work with Windows 7 in a dos window with a Hong Kong cable?
Is best if you have old PC with Win98, is fast & easy. For new windows need new program versions.
