I have a Kenwood TMV71A mobile that when receiving a signal I can only move the squekch slightly up on both 144 and 440 frequencies without loosing the signal. I susoect this is a know filter problem.

If it is a filter problem is there a repair facility that can repair my radio? I'm sight impaired and can't replace the filters myself.

Thank you for any suggestions

This is the Kenwood USA repair center for amateur radio:

At one time, Kenwood was replacing those filters for free, but I don't know if they still are.

I have a Kenwood radio from the bad filter era and the effect doesn't seem to be as bad as you describe.

Are you sure S-meter squelch isn't enabled?
Menu number 105.
If 105 is off there is no squelch on either side. Turned on there is limited squelch that when increased slightly above quieting no signal is received no matter how high I increase the signal from the service monitor.
