Now would you know if a 300amp variac is big enough for that radio? It hasn't been run in years and I dont want to blow the caps.

300 amp Variac? That would be huge. Do you mean 300 watts?

With a 120 volt supply, the TS-520 draws about 280 watts on transmit and much less on receive.

BTW, the answers I've given you are available by searching the Internet. It's OK to ask questions, but some folks might get a little resistant to answering questions when the answers are readily available.

I thought W9BU answered the question entirely satisfactorily given that the OP made the obvious mistake. So many questions are easily answered by a bit of googling.

I do find it rather worrying that the two rather lightweight questions were asked by someone who supposedly has got his ham ticket.
