• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I know zero about these.

Quick research suggests they are single band, programming by armada, that they are EOL, and parts are drying up.

Can this be used to do P25P2 NAS?

Would there be ways to add features (aren't they called entitlements) without setting up a vault account, similar to how certain moto units can get feature sets modified in the wild?

They are not capable of NAS without a system key. Purchased features can be added via a .opu file generated for the specific serial number, or Vault can be used. Vault accounts are free so there's no downside to that upgrade path unless it needs to be applied offline.

And to add, even though the first gen Viking radios are no longer supported, you should still be able to purchase features for them (because you can move features from older Viking radios to current Viking radios and vise-versa). The VP900 is the dual band model and came in VHF/7/800 or UHF/7/800. As far as the VPx00 radios go, they use the same Jedi accessory interface as the preceding 5100ES, 5100 Ascend, 51SL, XTSx500, XTS3000/5000 and the only thing that was really new is the serial interface (TTL logic on the Motorola radios, RS-232 on the 51xx) was dropped for a USB interface. The VM series are the mobiles and were built on the same chassis as the preceding 5300ES radios (and finding some of those accessory pigtails is very difficult).

They perform a NAS exactly like Motorola radios do...get a system key, configure scan (in this case it's a Radio Wide Scan List instead of a scan list within the system).

Oh,
I thought I had read somewhere it was a simple box check, and that made them more sure in the no-affiliate realm. Thanks!

That is the BK radios, no key needed for RX only. What band are you interested in? I have a few BK KNG-P800 radios that I may let lose of some.
