By "Kern 1, 2.." do you mean Kern 1 is what is listed as Channel 1, and Kern 2 is what is listed as Channel 2?

Well, that's pretty much the same thing so I don't know if it makes much difference.
Unless KCFD changes their frequency and naming conventions, what is currently published isn't accurate.

For example this is from the database:

155.62500 | KernCoFD 4 | Command County Wide

However, 155.625 is Kern 3 under KCFD's current channel naming convention.

A more appropriate alpha tag once the fire department converts over to the new channel plan maybe something like:

KernCoFD C4 = Command 4
KernCoFD V4 = Tactical 4

Just my thoughts...

OK I see what you are saying. I was talking specifically about channel order and that is how it is currently listed.

It may be named Kern 3 on the air. But it is in this channel 4 spot in the line up

I can make those changes later tonight.

Im interested in this too - When KCFD dispatches theyll say something like - TAKE YOUR TRAFFIC TO KERN 5. So does that mean Kern Channel 5 which is tac 3, or Kern tac 5 which is Channel 9, etc?

The database was modified to reflect better naming.

Kern 5 on the air is the same as Kern 5 in the DB.

Kern Tac 5 on the air is the same as Kern Tac 5 in the DB etc.

This is the first big change since KCFD went to VHF in almost 10 years. The radios that were used at the time of the VHF change had 3 zones/banks A, B, and C. There was a toggle switch on the top of the radio and all the Tac channels were in the C zone/bank so that's why they were named Tac 2C, 3C etc.. The new radios now have 17 zones/banks so there is no toggle switch. Got to keep it firefighter proof on use of the radios.

I've also heard that in the future KCFD may cross-band certain VHF frequencies with some UHF frequencies to help with in building comms. Since VHF is not building friendly. I'm just glad there is no talk about going trunked/digital.

I haven't heard anything on that. With the way the county budget is going and projected for the next few years I don't see any money being spent on anything. The big rumor is rolling brown outs and where. Things haven't looked this bad since the late 80's early 90's. That saw the elimination of the 2nd engines at stations, no new equipment, and relief personnel so no OT or very limited.

Kern 5 on the air is the same as Kern 5 in the DB.

Kern Tac 5 on the air is the same as Kern Tac 5 in the DB etc.

I don't think these changes have taken effect yet... Heard a dispatch yesterday to "respond on Command 3, Tac 3 Charlie." I think we ought to revert the database to what's actually in use until they make the change.

They are still using the term Kern [channel number] for the command channels. And tactical channels are V1, V2, etc...

I have meeting with the ECC manager on Thursday, so I will see what else I can find out.

The official document i received had an effective date of 03/2016 so I had no reason to doubt the submission

EDIT
Could "3 Charlie" have been Channel 3 in Zone C? That is the Sequoia NF Tac?

I have not heard that but old habits die hard. I know it took some time to remember to not say on Blue or back on Orange when the switch to VHF happened.

Interesting. I definitely heard "Command 3, Tac 3C." I wonder if there are any holdouts in the county that haven't reprogrammed yet? Or if the dispatcher just said it out of habit?

Not to get this thread too far off topic, but I see you have private messages disabled.

What's the best way to contact you? I had some questions regarding company emergency response teams in Kern county, as well as contact info for a tour or sit-along at ECC.

Thanks!

I spoke with the ECC manager today. Kern 6 & 7 will go live this summer. They will not be used during normal operations. Scenarios were they would be used would be for incidents such as wildland, major structure fires, aircraft or hazmat responses.

75 just got a fire in SBCo which turned out to be on BLM land. They were on KRN 27 with it patched to KRN 3 but SBCoFD was also patched in on D-Fire-4. In Ridgecrest I was not getting anything on KRN 27 but was getting everything on KRN 3 and D-Fire-4. Next time this is done my have to road trip a little to see where KRN 27 will get hit.
