Today between 2:00 P.M. and 3:00 I heard Keyport police using 153.1550 pl 179.9 as a tacitcal channel for what sounded like a cell phone enforcement detail. I checked the fcc database and found no match of that frequency with Keyport pd. does anyone have any info on this?

Maybe they borrowed them (radios) from the construction company that that frequency is licensed to. Sometimes cops where I live even use GMRS/FRS for some details.

LEO use of low power portables on frequencies outside their license authorization is nothing new, being legal it's been done for as many years as portables have been around. Long before encryption and cell phones it was the first and still effective way of out foxing the bad guys, use a frequency nobody would ever guess.

Don't forget cops work side jobs for road construction the freq is the repeater output the company so using it simplex won't cause any interference DPW channels used to be another place to find Pd at night when DPW off duty
