• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I programmed the above model and began using it in past few days. One issue I encountered was several frequencies were programmed in with differing PL/DPL's based on location. So several suburban NJ fire departments use the Brooklyn FDNY output. What I found when scanning was the Brooklyn audio would come through on channels (same frequency/different PL) using another PL entirely. Are there different types of scanning, meaning when scanning in a particular mode, it will open if any of the P'sL for that channel come along? Obviously Brooklyn overwhelms the smaller departments sharing the frequency. In fact, FDNY Brooklyn was not in any scan list.

What are you trying to do? Listen only to transmissions that have a particular PL, or any traffic on a frequency, regardless of PL?

Only listen when frequency active with selected PL. otherwise radio would constantly open up

Set the tone you want with the "tone squelch" option. That will keep the radio muted unless it hears the selected tone.

Unless something has changed with the KG-UV9D, it has been my experience that the Wouxon radios don't play well with PL/DPL. I've never had a UV9D, only 1 or 2 older models. My last was a UV6D that opened on every transmission regardless of PL/DPL. The vendor I purchased it from even went over my programming and verified all was correct before taking the unit on a return.

Sibbley, that is truly the issue I'm finding. Say the radio stops on frequency 154.370 PL 136.5 which is what is programmed, but the audio that comes thru is 154.370 PL 186.2 I thought perhaps a weak signal on the actual programmed PL opened the squelch, but stronger signal Brooklyn Fire overwhelmed it. I don't think that is the case though and it is what you say, not playing nicely with PL/DPL codes. My options are obviously to remove the rarely used alternate users and be fine. Are there firmware/software upgrades to these radios that come out periodically?

You are programming the PL info in on the receive side aren't you? (Not questioning your ability but having not seen the UV9D CPS, I'm not sure how it's set up.)

Also, is it possible that your listening position would allow reception from two departments simultaneously? I've been in locations where that happens, (usually with HAM or GMRS repeaters) where I'm hearing transmissions from two sources at once. One transmission breaks the squelch allowing others on the same frequency to get through.
