KHP issued new radios

I saw one of the new APCO 25 digital radios that KHP is getting the other day- it was a Motorola XTS-5000. The Trooper joked the "5000" indicated how much the state paid for them.

The Trooper also told me they changed out the 3 year old 800 Mhz radios in their cars too. Is a switch to digital coming anytime soon?

State 800

The State of Kansas has excellerated the completion of a digital 800 system due to the passing of a interoperability law last legislative session. They plan on having it complete in 2 years. They are currently issuing the new radios now. Rumor has it that Sedgwick and Butler counties have already signed on to join the system when it is complete. The ultimate goal is to have all public service agencies on this system for interoperability.
