Happy Saturday!

Since the last update I posted, I became an amateur radio operator and was granted the call sign KI5FKE. I have acquired two portable radios as I begin in the hobby. The first portable I purchased is the Radioddity GD-77 (right) dual-band DMR/analog radio. Then, since there was more 2m activity than 70 cm activity in my area, I purchased the reliable Kenwood TK-2170 (left). I got this one last week. Both are mated to the Abbree tactical antenna. The Radioddity has the SMA-Male version, and the Kenwood has the SMA-Female version.

I talked to a guy at an RV park in Canada who had an ABBtree Tactical antenna (very long) attached to his Baofeng and he had great things to say about it. Cheap, durable, great rx and tx. How do you like them with your radios?

Oh and congrats on getting your ticket!

I have nothing but great things to say as well! I recall a time, which was a couple of weeks ago, when I spoke to a gentleman in a town 19 miles south of where I am. He was very, very impressed that an HT a 5 W of power was able to reach out and touch the repeater. I'm also able to hear a repeater ~ 30 miles east of where I am as if I am in close proximity of the repeater. Very good antenna!

Nice, it's basically a blade antenna. There's a ton of different chinese rebrands out there. Based on the original military one for 30-80mhz used with the Harris handhelds, though most of the chinese clones are more narrow band tuned for ham 2 meter and 70 cm so better gain. I have one of the original Harris ones for lowband VHF portable monitoring.
