• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I understand. In Georgia, red lights are reserved for fire and medical vehicles. I know things are different in other places.

his kia soul is NOT an emergency vehicle, his lights are courtesy only.
They can be considered an emergency vehicle in some states. I know some were ticketed for not pulling over for volunteers heading to the station.

OP, I had the Whelen mini bar and it worked great. I'm not sure what they offer these days but Whelen was my go-to.

I figured some folks would question my request for advise. I expected it. I am a volunteer FF with a lot more credentials than most folks. I was asking for placement advise..be safe
No one is questioning the validity of your request but you've got to admit that it's unusual to find emergency equipment on a Kia Soul. I understand that VFD personnel don't have the luxury of the government furnishing their vehicle.

While I was not firefighter, I am a certified arson investigator and taught basic arson information to police recruits in the academy before I retired in 2007. Actually, for a while, I was the only arson investigator in this town. Fortunately, that has changed dramatically in recent years. I am still a certified fire instructor and a certified police instructor and only teach infrequently at the public safety academy now.

On a side note, the lead singer in our little country band is a retired fire lieutenant; our rhythm guitar player is a deputy fire chief and in charge of EMA. Our drummer is an EMT.

I apologize if you were offended but, I gotta tell ya, I'd still snicker a little bit.

A town near me use to have VW rabbits in their police car fleet. Diesel powered none the less. They could be outrun with a moped.

These kind of questions are kind of like the "which radio is better for XXX?" Very vague and open to limitless possibilities. What is your budget? Low profile or light bar? Do you desire a Christmas Tree look or something that is minimal but efficient? With todays leds you can place them just about anywhere. Also since this is primarily a radio related website maybe try some place like elightbars.org where there are thousands of posts about lights on everything you can imagine.
