Is it normal to get logged out quickly? I often jump up during TV commercials to use Radio Reference, but I have to re-log on every time.

Are you clicking the "Remember me?" check box at the login box in the upper right corne when you log in? If you're using a browser that dumps all your session cookies when you log off, you'll have to select the "remember me" box each time you log in or the system will time out your session. Firefox, which is what I use, does that cookie dump at each log out, so I had to get used to the effect. You should be able to change the setting in your browser's user options, but I like that dump feature since it's one of the reasons I don't get mail I don't solicit.

I do check remember me on the home page, but it's in the forum area where I get kicked off too often, ie whenever I go to reply to a message I need to login again.

Sounds like a Cookies problem with your browser. I would try using Firefox and see if the same thing occurs.

I just had to login again to reply. I'm at home now using Vista with IE, but I'm pretty sure the same thing happens at work wih Firefox.

eyes00only is referring to the login inactivity timeout feature of the RR forums web site.
This has nothing to do with your browser remembering the website address for login purposes.

That's what I thought too, and it is quite frustrating.

If I don't check the remember me box in the forums section, I get logged out fairly quickly if there's no activity on my part, so go figure. It's especially frustrating if it occurs while I'm in the middle of writing a post.

I can stay logged in without any issues. In fact, the only time I ever get logged out is when I do it manually. I have stayed logged in for weeks at a time. Make sure you are checking the remember me box on the forums log in page and that your cookies are not being cleared. It's definitely something with your computer, not the site.

As reading between the lines of scannerfreak's post would reveal, there is no inactivity timeout feature on the site. I too have left my computer on the site for hours on end (sometime days) and the only thing that happens is all the "new" posts get marked as read every so often. The problem is at the computer, not the site. Just for the record, I use XP Pro and IE ver 7.

I concur, it's at the computer and the browser's user options and defaults chosen by the user. Check the browser settings for the cookie dump at log out and change them as necessary to prevent that feature and you should be able to stay logged in.
