Totally unbelievable. Why was this not obvious a few months back. Two comments stand out
1- “county is being overwhelmed over the last few days by people interested in working for the county dispatch.” what? All of a sudden now when they are in crisis.

2- “ by Monday, the commissioners would have in hand an up-to-date financial figures for what had been budgeted for KRCC, what has been spent so far this fiscal year, and what remains in the bank”. What again!? You mean to say county commissioners don’t have immediate access to this?
I know, I do not have all the details and do not like to pass judgement but something is missing in this and someone failed to do their job. I understand the initial issues with personnel but it seems like more than just money is involved.

I wish them luck. Rockland has to do what is best for them. Why would Krcc use Waldo and how is Waldo able to handle with enough dispatchers? I guess they must be staffed ok. ? Where would Rockland get dispatchers? Everyone is having problems with hiring but somehow Lincoln and Sag. Counties are ok or maybe not?
Without looking at the regional job postings for Maine, my guess would be $$$ and benefits being offered

That's probably as correct as an answer could be. A good dispatcher is, quite literally, worth their weight in Rhodium. Doesn't matter if it's police, fire, EMS, trucking, taxis etc., if you find someone that can handle seventeen different things at once, you do what it takes to keep them. You want to lure a good one away from some place? Bennies and Benjis are the ticket.

And I mean Benefits and Benjamin's, not benzedrine and a scruffy dog.

Maybe, and I have no idea on the posting but I do know that most school bus drivers in my county start at $24 an hour up to $33.88 per hour with full benefits and would hope dispatchers are similar.

from the latest Job posting:

The starting hourly pay range is $27.70 - $35.19 ($18.70 - $26.19 plus an hourly stipend of $9.00 on each hour worked). Wage is determined depending on prior related experience. The County provides an excellent benefits package to full-time employees, including health insurance fully paid for the employee and 75% paid for dependents, paid vacation and sick leave, retirement plan with a 7% County contribution, and other voluntary benefits.
