Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone in the Knoxville or East Tennessee area could help me figure out which frequencies I need to listen to. I've seen on maps that Norfolk Southern and CSX both have lines running through, and I have 160.950 as NS's road channel.

I looked in the database for CSX, and I see 161.370 as the road channel, but I was wondering if that is the one in use around Knoxville too. Most of the CSX channels are labeled as Nashville or Memphis.

I live too far away from the CSX lines to be able to verify that frequency myself.

Also any other good ones to keep? I'm using a Motorola radio, so I can't reprogram it easily and I don't have enough channels to put all AAR frequencies in it.

Thanks

Do what I did and program all CSX and NS channels in and listen. I just went to Nashville for work Saturday and I was picking up tons of traffic, mostly yard switching but I was always hearing something when I was near a railroad.

I'm showing AAR 84 (161.370) as the CSX road channel in the Knoxville area, and AAR 014 is the dispatcher (160.320.) 072 (161.190) and 032 (160.590) are yard frequencies.

NS uses channel 56 (160.950) in that area. I guess they use their standard ex-Southern dispatch pairs (48 and 09) in that area.

I just search the railband and have found a bunch of freqs that aren't published anywhere I'm aware of. A lot of these are yard freqs and they are pretty interesting sometimes when things go wrong. I just save the new ones to open channels on my scanners. I will admit I have no idea what RR some of the oddballs are, we have a lot of rail activity in the Toledo area, and unless they actually mention the RR or I recognize a voice or name (I went to high school with one of the maintainance foremen, so if I hear his name, I know it's CSX) it's hard to tell. We have NS, CSX, CN, RJ Corman, and several short lines in the area, so there is a lot of traffic. It's not Chicago, but there's a lot more to listen to than in say, Columbus.

Please share your "unpublished" rail frequencies for the benefit of all rail fans.
