OK, but what do the designators stand for? Naopa? Tma?

Doug K

Northern Air Operating Area (NAOPA)
Used for Fleet training, submerged tows (including Variable Depth Sonar), Anti Submarine Warfare, Independent Steaming Exercise, basic air intercept control, aircraft transits, and familiarization flights. It's an area East through North-east from the San Clemente Island coast to about 35-40 miles (about half way to the mainland).

Tactical Maneuvering Areas (TMA P-1 through TMA P-8)
Air combat maneuvering, air intercept control, aerobatics, air-to-air gunnery.
They are about 50 miles to the south of San Clemente Island
