I notice that KOKC had been struggling again, and then around friday 10 Nov 2023, sometime they went off air, and as of the evening of 12 Nov 23 they reamain off the air. Anyone have any idea what is going on? This is getting a bit out of control.

As of this evening, I am happy to report that KOKC is back at 50KW directional, operating on the Nautel NX50. All tuning units have been rebuilt, and 3 new towers erected. The backup transmitter is a Nautel Ampfet 50.

What had happened that took them off the air?
We couldn’t have staff working in the tuning houses around all the RF, so it was intentionally shut off. Work has been proceeding for the last couple of weeks with various staff and contractors involved. As you may recall, in March of 2015, the site was hit by a tornado, causing a collapse of 2 towers, and major damage to the third. 3 new towers have since been erected, and the towers have been shifted to the east to allow for development closer to the site. KOKC operates at 50KW Omni-Directional during the day, and 50KW directional overnight. As of last night, we had DX reports all the way into Washington state. There are still minor adjustments to make, so expect some more off-air times during the next week or two. You can always tune in online, or listen to the FM translator at 95.3 FM if you’re local. Thanks for listening!

Wow, that is good that you all are investing in AM (Always Modern) technology. I know the signal has been pure crap since the towers went down...

I used to listen regularly in Denver.

Cool!

Interesting to come across this post today. In the past couple of months I've been doing AM broadcast chasing at night from my location in central AZ. Two or three nights ago I logged KOKC on 1520, my first log from OK. It was a good signal around sunset, but disappeared later in the night. I'm using a 25 year old Realistic DX-440 portable with just the internal ferrite antenna.

You should look at 1170 KVOO/KTSB out of Tulsa, when we used to go to Vegas we could always keep up with home listening out there after dark. They recently changed to KTSB and a sports format.
