Just a note on the above.

A program series on KPBS, "Independent Lens", will be aired on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 P.M.

The subject of this episode is as follows: "...a wildland firefighting crew struggles with fear, loyalty and defeat during a single firefighting season."

It may be shown also in Los Angeles and elsewhere in the Southern California area, through other local PBS stations.

Preview the upcoming program here: Wildland | Venture Through Hell Alongside Firefighters | Independent Lens | PBS

A Very Informative Program

I hope that you had the opportunity to watch this program! I learned quite a bit. Was particularly interested in the fact on why these guys wanted to become firefighters. Their backgrounds and where they came from was also a bit of a surprise. Another surprise was learning that pot growers in Humbolt County [and reasonably assume elsewhere] will use bottles w/MRE's [to deter poachers/other pot growers], capable of blowing your hand off.

A retired crew boss addresses the wanna-be firefighter group: "Firefighting is long hours of hard, boring, dirty, exhausting and backbreaking work, punctuated by moments of sheer terror." The camera pans to two youths that you know are going to wash out even before the test began, just by the look of fear in their eyes and etched on their faces.

"People will tell you to do some extremely stupid things; it's up to you to tell them "NO!" You have to know when to say, "NO!"
