• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is anyone running Kenwood's KPG-180APK3 (OTAP software) over a P25 trunk system?

If yes, does it work?
What is required to be configures on the mobiles/portables to accept OTAP?

Not on a P25 system, but I use KPG-150 on a NexEdge trunked system. It works well, saves a lot of running around manually programming radios.

As for KPG-180AP
It comes with 50 licenses (radios)
To program via a P25 conventional system, you need a KWD-QP3-P25 license, that allows P25 radio to radio communications. That's for the serial connection to a base station radio.

As for the individual NX-5xxx radios, it's just a function you turn on in the "Product Information" field for each radio you want to be able to OTAP.

What's interesting about the P25 OTAP on the NX-5K radios is that on the page, it shows a license part number. Almost like it was set up to be a licensed per radio function. On my KPG-1 (a slightly out of date version) it's available for me to turn on.
Kenwood doesn't show it as a purchasable item on the price sheets, so I guess it's free/included with all of them.

On the NX-x00, NX-x10, NX-x20 radios we run, it's included and just a check box. I purchased the KPG-150 software when I purchased the rest of the system, and I'm really glad I did. I updated about 50 radios for our PD this week, and except for a few that were not active in the trunked system, they all updated without issue, all while I sat at my desk. I just had one of their guys make sure all the radios were turned on.
