• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You say license file. KPG-6D software is for a very very old mobile. It doesn't use a license file, just the activation key during install.

Are you referring to KPG-D6N for the new NX-1000 series radio?

If you only purchased 1 license key you will need to deactivate the key on your old computer. Then you can install the key on the new computer. The newer Kenwood stuff only allows you to install it with the amount of license key(s) you purchased, gone are the days of installing Kenwood software on multiple machines without purchasing more keys.

OK. It sounds like your old computer is disabled. If thatis the case and you cannot deactivate your license on the old computer you'll have to get Kenwood involved to help with this. Evans explains this pretty well.

It's that or purchase another license.

Your dealer "might" be able to help you if you have all the original documentation. They might be willing to get Kenwood involved and see if they will unlock that key, however this won't always work though. As ramal121 stated, you might have to purchase another key since Kenwood isn't responsible for your old computer being damaged.

Why I make sure to disable or deactivate current key when not in use. Even with the proper methods of backing up things I still deactivate when not in use.

The license management client has a way of locking things up if you change any hardware on the pc device. Thus the reasons I mentioned in the above article.

If you have problems with the dealer getting your lost key refresh, please contact me and I will go over the things I will need from you to
submit a refresh request. It is very specific on what information is needed! New Device ID from the LMC, the original emails from kenwood or the dealer who sent you the key, and if possible, a support ticket from the LMC also.

I still dont understand why all the high security for programming software, or why its even sold by the manufacturers at all. It isn't like it does anything without having purchased the hardware.

Honestly, the way D1N works (painful to run and the ability for a hardware crash to render the license gone forever unless you jump through hoops and Kenwood is in a good mood that day) and this licensing stuff is one reason some of our agencies shy away from purchasing Kenwood products on the system.

It was an overreaction to the bootleg software issues. Not a good overreaction, either. Yeah, it's a pain, but I can't entirely blame them. They invest money in software development and then it gets shared all over the internet for free.

Other vendors have equally problematic solutions to software licensing. Motorola's 14 page agreement with threatening language wasn't much better if you were the one who had to sign that knowing that someone would just leak the software anyway.

Yeah, the software sucks. I kept hoping Kenwood would fix it, but they seem to be happy with the way it is. Hopefully Armada will eventually take over. Earlier versions of KPG (Pre KPG-D1N, 2, 3, 6, etc) were really good. Some of the easier software to learn and a lot of flexibility.
