• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I don't really need to be able to page out on it, I just want it to activate when a tone is recieved, Anybody know how to do that on a 7160? Or how long it needs to be set at?

You need to know the frequency and duration of your tones, then plug them into the 2 tone 1 field in the 2 tone menu. Select 2 tone 1 as the signaling on the channels you may be paged out on, and decide between the "and" and the "or" signaling.

The duration I believe is 5 seconds. One of the tones is 1185.2 and the other 584 I believe.. I'll have to check. It doesn't necessarily have to be done, Just thought it'd be nice. They are motorola Quick Call Tones From Reed Group 6 I believe. Just one long tone when it doesn't activate anything. Do I need to change it from 2 tone 1 to single tone?

Hello, I'm trying to use KPG 74D software with windows 7. It installed and opened up just fine, and to connect the computer to the radio, I'm using a USB to serial adapter, which is connected to to the computer via usb and to the programming cable via serial, then on to the radio.

When I try to read the radio, It says "Can not open com port", Also will not open help or any other topics contained within the software.

I heard this program would not work with anything past windows XPS.

Any thoughts or ideas?

throw away that cord and buy a serial port cord. it works alot better. may also be windows 7

No, I think I'll keep the cord. It works awesome now. Just had to go into drivers and devices and change a few settings, Now it works just fine every time I plug it in.
