• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is there a way to insert new channels in this grid display, by moving channel positions down to make room for new channel position?

Or, must I (a) change all the System and Personality IDs below the channel position I want to add (to create a duplicate channel I can now delete of modify), or (b) create a new zone, and and copy and paste channels into it from the old zone, leaving room to the new channel position(s)? Then fix any Scan List linking issues?

And maybe I migh have to leave 2-3 positions unfilled below each channel goinf forward for flexibility?

I will now stop complaining about Moto and Hytera CPS. Seems Kenwood made the most commonly-modified fields and functions the most time consuming to change. Its somewhat hard to believe this can occure in 2024 - but here we are. But - the software seems very stable, equivalent to Hytera. Much better than Moto CPS2.0 (hangs, crashes, stalls).

if your goal is say a 16channel zone then copy and paste everything already there below channel 16 (scratch pad) and then paste them back into 1-16 In the order you want. The Con to this is you cannot erase anything that is associated with a scan list so you have to remove from lists first before you can delete redundant or unwanted charnels.

Everyone's reply forced me to understand Table versus Personality Mode (the Help description made no sense without knowing other things). This is a classic Sophie's Choice dilemma that our Japanese friends have provided. Personality Mode it will be, as I need to mix Systems in the same zone. The copy (multiple rows)/paste/delete/add new channel method will work. Thankfully the radio ignores open/empty channel rows in the table if I choose to leave some paste space in various places.

Although it is likely explained elsewhere in the forum: changing the radio (not just the how its displayed in KPG-1DN) to a different modes (Table versus Personality) requires that the *entire* radio be wiped. But the radio will accept a previous file that was created on the original mode if you choose not to change. Just don add hundres of channels and try to change later.

Thanks for the responses.

Does this apply to Table Mode as well? I was using Personality Mode and it definatly complained when I tried to delete channels.

For conventional I WAY prefer the table mode, it allows you to cut and paste into an Excel file and edit that way. There are a few quirks with that but they are all easy to work around (QT tones are x10 and DQT is in Octal). You can convert from Table to Personality in D1N, but not the other way. When I convert from Personality to Table I use Excel to do most of the work. Now for P25 TRS I do use Personality, but that does not come into play for most casual users of the NX-5x00's.

Just my two cents, so take it for what it's worth.
