• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I need to update some radios, so I pulled out my laptop that has all my software on it. KPT-300LMC will not open. I’m running v2.00, and I tried running the installation with the “repair” option, but it still won’t launch. All of my software licenses have been safely exported from that machine, but I have a number of DMR and P25 licenses on it that I need access to. I am afraid to just uninstall and reinstall the software for fear that I will lose those licenses. Any ideas?

UPDATE - I took a chance and did an uninstall/reinstall...it still will not launch.

Current version of KPT-300LMC is 2.01 2.00 will not work

From Kenwood "Version 2.01 Added Windows Digital Security Certificate"

I wondered about that...although 2.00 works on 4 other computers I have. Anyone know where I can track down 2.01? If not I'll call my dealer later today. I had no luck browsing around elsewhere, although I thought it was freely available from Kenwood.

UPDATE: Acquired and installed v2.01 and still have the same result. Double-click the icon, it thinks for about 10 seconds, then nothing.

I tried that as well with no luck. I get the Windows "User Account Control" prompt which I acknowledge, then nothing again. And the JKEFA on this machine only has one seat, so I can't load it onto another machine to get the licenses back either. At this point I don't care if I get this laptop working again, as the battery is shot and the screen is cracked, but I need to get my JKEFR licenses back.

Making sure you are using good ole Windows 10
Yes, Windows 10. Everything worked just fine on this computer last time I used it. I'm working now to uninstall the Windows updates that were installed yesterday, as that's the only thing that has changed since the last time it worked.

I can also point you in the right direction to getting you JKEFA increased via Kenwood Tech Support.
Export your LOG FILE! and make note or copy your device ID just in case!

Out of curiosity what kind of computer are you using? We have both Dell and Lenovo computers here and the Dells give me fits all of the time with LMC, never and issue with the Lenovos.

It's a Dell....actually all of them are Dells, and this is the first issue I've ever had in 8 years

I have the device ID...I can't get LMC open to export the log file though. I learned the last time when my previous computer died (and you helped me out) to make sure I have the device IDs on file somewhere. If I get the JKEFA increased, can I just load that onto the new PC and be able to recover the JKEFR licenses that were on the old machine?

If you have more seats on your JKEFA, YES!
that's the link between the pc's. Load on a new PC, use the same JKEFA, and you will see your keys in the vault.
